How to apply for Passport in India


Nowadays the procedure for applying for an Indian Passport is completely streamlined. One can request Indian citizenship passport via online and then by visiting Passport Seva Kendra on the given time line and the entire methodology at the passport issuing office may take around of 2-3 hours of time.After submitting your application for the Indian passport in a successful manner ,

you will get a police visit for verification at your residence with-in 2 weeks of application submission and after satisfying verification report the passport will be send at your residence by postal service . The entire methodology may take a tentative time span of 45 days or so. Here is the complete procedure for requesting for an Indian Passport.


Filling of the form:

Machine readable application form is allotted and so you need to follow the instructions strictly. Be cautious while filling the details in the form as the same is going to be printed in the passport. The application need to be filled in capital letters. Make use of blue or Black pen to fill it. Give a space after every word while filling the form. Over writing is not allowed and fully complete application form will only be accepted. You can download the form by visiting (

Submission of form:

If you are applying online then you need to take the printout of the form completely filled and then submit the same in the office of passport on the schedule date along with other necessary documents. You can also submit the same in speed post centres, centres for passport collection or in speed post centres.

Documents for residence proof:

You can submit the following documents for address proof : Ration card, Utility bills -telephone bill  or water tax bill or electricity bill, Voters’ identity card, Address in the letter head of organization,

Documents for education proof and Date of Birth:

Birth certificate and School certificate. If the person is non literate  or even semi-literate in that case you need to submit a Magistrate attested  sworn affidavit. It can also be  attested by Sarpanch or Tehsildar.


A Citizen Service executive will take photograph of the applicant  at the passport seva Kendra( PSK). In case the applicant is minor  and is below the age of 4 years in that case a photograph need to be carried  with background in white while visiting  PSK.
